Sei Wallet vs Sei Global Wallet: Difference Explained

These are two different products built by two different teams. Sei Global Wallet is the wallet pre-installed on Xiaomi smartphones, built by Sei Labs (the team behind the Sei chain). Sei Wallet is the desktop application built by Sei Wallet Labs Inc, an independent New York company. We are not affiliated with Sei Labs.

This page exists because users sometimes confuse the two — names are similar, both are non-custodial, both work on the Sei chain. Different team, different product, both legitimate.

What Sei Global Wallet is

Sei Global Wallet is a mobile application developed by Sei Labs (the company that built the Sei chain itself). Sei Labs partnered with Xiaomi (the world's third-largest smartphone manufacturer) to pre-install Sei Global Wallet on Xiaomi phones sold outside the US and mainland China starting in 2026.

The partnership includes a pre-installed wallet on new Xiaomi devices, a discovery feature for Sei dApps inside the wallet, a planned Q2 2026 rollout of stablecoin payment support across 20,000+ Xiaomi retail stores in Hong Kong and EU markets, and a $5M Global Mobile Innovation Program funded by Sei Foundation.

Sources: CoinDesk (December 2025), Sei Foundation press release, MEXC News reporting. If you bought a Xiaomi phone in a country where Sei Global Wallet ships pre-installed, this is the wallet that came with your phone.

What Sei Wallet is

Sei Wallet (this product) is a desktop application built by Sei Wallet Labs Inc, an independent New York company founded in December 2024. Self-funded; not part of any ecosystem grant program.

We chose the name "Sei Wallet" because it's the most descriptive name for what the product is — a wallet for Sei. We registered the trademark for "Sei Wallet" in this naming context. Read about Sei Wallet Labs Inc.

Why these two products exist

Different design priorities; different distribution strategies.

Sei Global Wallet is built for mass mobile adoption. It ships pre-installed on hundreds of millions of phones globally. The UX is optimized for users who may be new to crypto and just want stablecoin payments and basic wallet functions. It's mobile-only by design — it lives on the device a user already carries.

Sei Wallet (us) is built for Sei-active desktop users. The UX is optimized for users who actively manage staking, choose validators, browse Sei dApps, and want desktop-native operation. It ships only as a download to users who specifically seek it out — see our native Sei staking and self-custody security model.

Neither is "better" — they target different users at different stages of Sei adoption.

Can I use both?

Yes. Same seed phrase works in both.

  1. Use Sei Global Wallet on your Xiaomi phone for casual checking and mobile transactions (if you have a Xiaomi phone).
  2. Use Sei Wallet on desktop for active operations: staking, validator selection, dApp browsing, address management.
  3. Same BIP-39 seed phrase restored in both. Same 0x address. Same balance.

For most users who care about Sei specifically, this is a fine combination. The wallet on your phone is convenient; the wallet on your desktop has more depth.

How to tell them apart

You probably have Sei Global Wallet if:

  • You bought a Xiaomi phone and the wallet was already installed.
  • The wallet is mobile-only (no desktop app).
  • The branding mentions "Sei" alongside "Xiaomi" or shows partnership marks.
  • The wallet has a Sei dApp discovery feature as a primary navigation item.

You have Sei Wallet (us) if:

  • You downloaded a .exe, .dmg, or .zip from seiwallet.net.
  • It's running on Windows, Mac, or Linux.
  • The branding shows "Sei Wallet" by Sei Wallet Labs Inc.
  • The signed binary is from "Sei Wallet Labs Inc" (Windows/Mac signature) or PGP-signed by our published key (Linux).

Why we don't claim the Xiaomi distribution

We make a desktop wallet for Sei. We don't ship on Xiaomi phones, we don't have a partnership with Xiaomi, and we don't claim otherwise. The Xiaomi-bundled wallet is built by Sei Labs and is a separate product.

When Sei Labs' Xiaomi wallet was announced (December 2025), we were already building Sei Wallet for desktop. We chose desktop specifically because mobile distribution was being addressed by others. The two products complement each other rather than compete.
