Will my SEI be lost on May 28?

No. SEI is on-chain. The wallet app is just an interface. As long as you have your seed phrase backed up, you can access your SEI from any Sei-compatible wallet. The apps closing doesn't remove your funds — it just removes that particular interface to them.

Do I need to move my SEI to a new address?

No. Same seed phrase = same addresses = same balances. When you import your Compass or Leap seed phrase into Sei Wallet, the wallet derives the same addresses you had before. Your funds appear at the same addresses. There's no on-chain transfer required.

What happens to my staked SEI?

Staking is chain-level state, not app-level. Your validator assignments and rewards stay where they are. After importing your seed into Sei Wallet, you'll see the same staked positions, the same pending rewards, and the same unbonding queue.

What about my address book / wallet preferences?

Wallet-side data — address book entries, custom token labels, transaction notes — does not transfer with the seed phrase. Export it from Compass/Leap before May 28 (Settings > Export Data, where available) and re-enter it manually in Sei Wallet.

I already have Keplr — should I migrate to Sei Wallet anyway?

If your primary chain is Sei and you mostly use desktop, yes — Sei Wallet's Sei-specific UX is more focused than Keplr's. If you have meaningful holdings in other Cosmos chains, keep Keplr too. Both wallets can run on the same seed phrase.

What's actually happening on May 28

The Leap Wallet team — which builds both Compass and Leap — announced in early 2026 that it would sunset all of its products on May 28, 2026. That includes Compass (the Sei-native browser extension), Leap Wallet (the multi-chain Cosmos wallet), Leapboard, SwapFast, Snaps, and the Leap Cosmos Hub validator. The leapwallet.io homepage now reads literally "Leap Wallet | Sunset on 28th May."

This is real. There's no rollback announcement, no "we changed our minds" press release. May 28 is the cutoff.

What it means for your funds

Your SEI tokens are not "in" Compass or Leap. They're on the Sei chain. The wallet apps are interfaces to your funds — they hold your seed phrase locally and use it to sign transactions when you initiate them. When the apps stop running, your funds are still on-chain at the same addresses they always were.

What you lose when the apps close:

The ability to sign transactions from those apps (no sending, no staking, no claiming rewards, no swapping)
The convenience of viewing your portfolio inside those apps
Any wallet-side preferences, address book entries, or local data the apps stored

What you do NOT lose:

Your funds (they're on-chain)
Access to your funds via your seed phrase (you can import it into another wallet)
Your transaction history (it's on the public Sei chain)
Your staking position (chain-level state, not app-level)

The only requirement: have your seed phrase backed up.

What you should do before May 28

The migration is straightforward if your seed phrase is backed up. The full step-by-step is at /migration, but the short version:

Find your seed phrase. Compass and Leap show it in Settings > Security > Show Recovery Phrase.
Download Sei Wallet for Windows, Mac, or Linux. Verify the binary signature.
Choose "Restore from seed phrase" during Sei Wallet setup.
Enter your seed phrase. Sei Wallet derives the same addresses Compass/Leap did.
Verify the addresses match what you saw in Compass/Leap. They should match exactly.
Re-stake if needed. Validators stay assigned (chain state).

What if your seed phrase isn't backed up

Recover it now. Compass and Leap both let you view it in their settings. Do this before May 28; after that, the apps may not load.

If you used a hardware wallet (Ledger) with Compass or Leap, your funds are derived from the hardware wallet's seed — so they migrate to any wallet that supports Ledger + Sei. See /security/ledger.

Where the migration recommendations point you

Leap's own announcement told users to migrate to Keplr, MetaMask, Phantom, or Rabby. None of those are Sei-native desktop wallets. Each works for Sei via custom RPC, but none is built specifically for the post-SIP-3 Sei chain.

Sei Wallet is the Sei-native desktop alternative. We're not the only choice — Keplr is excellent for Cosmos-multi-chain users, Rabby for EVM power users, Trust Wallet for mobile. But for Sei-only desktop users, Sei Wallet is the focused option. See the full comparison.

If you migrate before May 28, May 28 is uneventful for you. If you don't migrate before, you can still recover access from your seed phrase using any other Sei-compatible wallet — but migrate as soon as possible to avoid being mid-transaction when the apps close.
